1. Open the corkscrew's lever, this type of corkscrew will have two long levers ("wings") on either side of the center ring. Inside the ring will be a long metal spiral controlled by a twistable tab on top. Start by lowering the wing towards the center ring, the metal helix should rise at the same time.

2. Place the center ring on the cork, the center ring is slightly wider than the opening of a standard wine bottle, so it should fit easily. If the opening of the wine bottle is covered with foil, remove it first.

3. Turn the center tab clockwise, the sharp tip of the metal screw will pierce the cork. As you turn the tab, the metal screw will continue into the cork. Gently turn until the wings are all the way up toward the tab.

4. Fold the levers down, grasp the levers with one or both hands, and gently lower them toward the cork screws and the sides of the bottle. As you push them down, the corks slowly pull out. If the cork is not fully extended, gently shake it from side to side until it is completely removed.
